From RM 250.00. The price comes from the two numbers you enter above: the letter height and the overall width of the whole line of text. Taller letters cost more per metre of text, and a longer line costs more because it is simply more letters. You never have to count the letters yourself — the calculator does it, and the price updates as you type.

Letter height is the cap height of your tallest letter — a capital A measured top to bottom, not the height of the whole block of text. Overall width runs from the left edge of the first letter to the right edge of the last one, spaces included. The diagram above the size fields shows both. Two stacked lines are two order lines, one for each line. As a rule of thumb, 200–400mm letters suit a shopfront fascia read from across the road, and 80–150mm a reception wall.

Backlit means the face of the letter stays solid and the LED sits behind it, so at night you see a dark letterform floating in a halo of light on the wall. By day it reads as a plain metal letter. Front-lit is the opposite — the acrylic face glows in your brand colour, which is far more readable from a distance but a much louder look. Choose backlit for a reception wall, a hotel or a building name, where the wall behind is light-coloured and close enough for the halo to land on it; choose our front-lit Aluminium Box-Up Letters for a retail fascia that has to be read from the road.

The face is solid aluminium — that is the whole point of a backlit letter, and it is what the halo reads against. Beyond that there is one upgrade: a mirror face in gold, silver or rose gold, which makes the letter read as polished metal by day and as a clean silhouette in the halo at night — the usual pick for salons, boutiques and bridal. Keep a mirror face indoors or under shelter and out of direct sunlight: it marks more easily than steel, and constant sun on a mirror finish is what starts it deteriorating. Minimum letter height is 80mm, to fit the LED and its wiring.

Wiring the LEDs straight into 240V mains destroys them the moment you switch on, and that is not covered by warranty. Take the rainproof driver for anything outdoors, and mount it somewhere your electrician can still reach in two years.

Add the full-size paper template — tape it up, mark the holes through it, and every letter lands level and evenly spaced first time.
