How Much Does a Custom Neon Sign Cost in Malaysia? Price, Sizes and What to Choose

A custom neon sign is priced by its size and what you put on it. Here is one real price, what moves it up or down, which backboard to pick, and how long the sign takes to make.

How Much Does a Custom Neon Sign Cost in Malaysia? Price, Sizes and What to Choose

Key takeaways

  • The custom neon sign page shows the exact price as you type your words and size, so you do not have to wait for a quote.
  • A custom neon sign takes 7 working days to make, counted from the day you approve the artwork.
  • Express makes a neon sign ready in 3 working days and is 30% of the order, with a minimum of RM20 and a maximum of RM150.
  • LED neon flex is for indoor and sheltered positions, so a sign in open rain needs a different kind of lit letter.
  • The largest custom neon sign is 3m × 0.6m.

A custom neon sign in Malaysia is priced by its size and what you put on it. As one real example, a 600 × 300 mm sign in LED Neon Flex is RM132 for one piece, before delivery and options. Your own words, size and backboard will give a different figure, and the custom neon sign page shows your exact price as you type.

How much does a custom neon sign cost?

There is no single price, because every sign is made to order. The example above is one size in one material, with no paid options. It is not a starting price and it is not a rate you can scale up to a bigger sign.

The quick way to get your own number is to type your words on the product page. The price is on the screen before you order, so you do not need to send a message and wait for a quote.

Each sign is priced as one piece. The price does not include delivery.

What changes the price of a neon sign?

Size is the main thing. A longer word or a taller letter needs more neon flex and a bigger board behind it, and both take longer to bend and mount by hand.

After size, look at what you add. The page reprices as you change the words, the size, the backboard and the options, so you can try a shorter line or a smaller height and watch what happens.

Three ways to keep the cost down:

  • Use fewer words. A name or a short phrase reads better in neon than a full sentence anyway.
  • Go only as big as the wall needs. A sign for a bedroom shelf does not need to be the size of a sign behind a cafe counter.
  • Leave out options you will not use.

If the sign does not need to light up, you may not need neon at all. Flat acrylic letters on a wall give a clean name sign with nothing to plug in.

What is an LED neon sign, and is there real neon in it?

No, there is no neon gas in it. An LED neon sign is made from LED neon flex: a line of LEDs inside a silicone jacket that glows evenly along its length, so it looks like a glass tube.

The flex is bent by hand to follow your letters, then mounted on a backboard. Compared with glass neon it draws a fraction of the power, runs cool enough to touch and does not shatter. It lasts about 50,000 hours.

That is why shop signs are no longer bent from real glass. For a home, a cafe wall or a wedding, LED neon flex is the practical choice.

Which backboard should you choose?

Three neon shapes on a wall showing a black cut-out backboard, a clear shaped acrylic backboard and a rectangle backboard

The neon flex has to sit on something. There are three backboards, and the choice changes how the sign looks when it is switched off as much as when it is on.

Backboard How it looks Good for
Hollow-out black PVC A dark board cut away around the letters Dark walls, bars, gaming rooms, where you want the glow to stand out
Clear acrylic cut to the shape of your text Almost invisible, the words seem to float Light walls, bedrooms, weddings, shop interiors
Rectangle board A simple straight-edged panel Easy hanging, or a sign that gets moved from event to event

If you are unsure, clear acrylic cut to shape suits most rooms because the board disappears against the wall. Pick black PVC when the wall behind is dark or busy.

You also choose a colour. There are twelve, including RGB colour-changing and gradient. Pick a fixed colour if the sign is part of your brand, and RGB if you want to change the mood of a room.

What size should a neon sign be?

Measure the wall first, then decide the width of the sign. A sign that fills about the middle of the space, with clear wall on both sides, looks planned. One that runs edge to edge looks squeezed.

The largest custom neon sign is 3m × 0.6m. The neon flex itself is 16mm thick, so very small letters with tight curves are hard to form cleanly. If your phrase is long, make it wider or split it into two lines instead of shrinking the letters.

A common mistake is choosing a thin script font at a small size. The loops close up and the word gets hard to read. A simpler font at the same width reads better from across the room.

For a sign behind a counter, read our guide to cafe and restaurant signage to see where it fits with the rest of the shop.

Can a neon sign be used outdoors?

A custom LED neon sign is for indoor use and sheltered positions. Inside a shop, behind a window or under a covered area is fine. Open rain and direct weather are not.

For a lit sign on an exposed shopfront, look at lit metal letters instead. Our guide to 3D signboard letter types explains front-lit and backlit letters, and how to choose sign letters covers which fonts each type can hold.

How long does a custom neon sign take?

A neon sign is fabricated by hand, so it takes longer than a printed banner or sticker.

Service Ready in Cost
Standard 7 working days, counted from artwork approval Included
Express 3 working days 30% of the order, minimum RM20, maximum RM150

You choose Express at checkout. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are not production days, so count working days only.

Courier time is on top of that: 1 to 2 working days in the Klang Valley and 2 to 4 working days for the rest of Peninsular Malaysia. You can also collect from Seri Kembangan.

Check the spelling and the font carefully before you approve the artwork. An order can be cancelled before approval, but not after production starts.

How do you hang and power a neon sign?

A neon sign board laid on a table beside its hanging kit, a power plug and a USB lead

A hanging or wall kit comes in the box, so you do not need to buy fixings separately.

For power you choose between a 12V UK plug and a 5V USB lead. Take the plug for a sign that stays on a wall near a socket. Take the USB lead when the sign sits on a shelf or a desk near a USB port.

Before you order, check where the nearest socket is and which side of the sign the cable should leave from. A cable trailing across a white wall is the thing people most often regret. For the wall fixing itself, the methods in how to mount an acrylic sign on a wall apply to an acrylic-backed neon sign too.
