What size should a signboard be? For a standard Malaysian shoplot, the shopfront signboard is usually sized to the lot width — most shoplots are around 20 ft (6.1 m) wide, so shopfront signs commonly run 15–20 ft wide and 2–3 ft tall. But the right size depends on where the sign goes and how far away people read it from.
Common signboard sizes in Malaysia
| Use | Typical size (ft) | Approx. (cm) |

| Small shop / kiosk sign | 4–8 ft × 2 ft | 120–245 × 60 cm |
| Office reception logo | 2–4 ft × 1–2 ft | 60–120 × 30–60 cm |
| Directional / door sign | 1–2 ft × 0.5–1 ft | 30–60 × 15–30 cm |
| Event backdrop | 8–10 ft × 8 ft | 245–305 × 245 cm |
| A-frame / standee | A1–A0 | 59×84 to 84×119 cm |
Poster / paper sizes (handy for indoor signs)
- A3 — 29.7 × 42 cm
- A2 — 42 × 59.4 cm
- A1 — 59.4 × 84.1 cm
- A0 — 84.1 × 118.9 cm
How to choose the right size
- Measure the space the sign will sit in (the fascia, wall or stand) and leave a small margin.
- Match the viewing distance — a rough rule is 1 inch of letter height for every 10 ft of reading distance. A shopfront read from 50 ft needs ~5-inch lettering.
- Check the lot rules — for shopfront signs, your signboard licence and the building's guidelines may cap the size.
- Mind the material limits — large outdoor signs should use rigid ACP board; very large indoor pieces are cheapest on KT board.
