The sign reads SELF SERVICE, PLEASE RETURN YOUR TRAY in English and LAYAN DIRI, SILA PULANGKAN DULANG in Bahasa Malaysia, with a Chinese version (自助服务) available on its own or together with BM and English. It is fixed above tray return racks and at table areas in food courts, hawker centres, school and university canteens, hospital cafeterias, factory canteens and fast-food outlets across Malaysia. Operators use it to cut clearing costs and to keep tables free for the next customer. It sits alongside the cleanliness requirements that premises licensed under the KKM Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 are expected to maintain. Default size is 200×300mm; other sizes from 150×200mm to 600×900mm. PVC foam board 5mm is rigid and wipes clean, making it the usual choice for a dining hall; PP hollow board is the budget option; Tandaku Colourfit EG steel sheet 0.5mm suits an open-air hawker centre.
