About this sign
A plain facility notice reading TOILET – PLEASE ASK FOR THE KEY AT THE COUNTER, with the Bahasa Malaysia line TANDAS – SILA MINTA KUNCI DI KAUNTER. A Chinese version is also available, and the default print carries BM and English with a male/female toilet pictogram.
It is a familiar sight at petrol station kiosks, kopitiams, mamak restaurants, clinics, laundrettes and small retail lots across Malaysia where the toilet is kept locked and the key stays with the cashier. Mounting it on the toilet door or beside the counter saves staff answering the same question all day.
