A wrinkled vinyl banner can be frustrating when you are setting up a stage, photo wall or event booth. Start by opening it carefully, giving it full support and adjusting the mounting evenly. These steps may improve soft wrinkles. Deep fold lines can remain visible, so check the result before your event rather than counting on every crease disappearing.
This guide is for flexible PVC prints such as our flex banners and printed jumbo backdrops. Follow the care instructions for your particular print. The pictures below are explanatory illustrations, not tested before-and-after results.
First, check the difference between wrinkles and fold lines

Broad waves may come from slack or uneven support. A narrow ridge across the graphic is consistent with a fold. Correcting the frame can help the first problem without removing the second. Visigraph explains that recovery from folding depends on the banner material and the severity of the crease.
Check the printed face and mounting points before you start. If you see a tear, split, lifted print or a pale damaged line, photograph it and contact your printer. Pulling harder is not a repair for damaged material.
Method 1: Let the banner relax, then mount it evenly

Try these gentle steps first:
- Unpack early. Give yourself time to check the banner before setup day. Unfold it gently, with enough help to support a large sheet.
- Clean it if needed. Use a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then let it dry. FASTSIGNS recommends soap and water and warns against solvent cleaners that can damage vinyl or remove ink.
- Lay it flat indoors. Choose a clean surface at a comfortable room temperature. Allow several hours before checking again. Banners.com describes resting vinyl flat in a warm room as a first step for packed wrinkles.
- Fit it to its mounting system. Check that the frame is square and the graphic fits. For a jumbo stand with pole pockets, use the intended crossbars. For an eyelet banner, support it through its fixing points.
- Adjust gently and evenly. Remove slack without forcing the sheet to stretch. FASTSIGNS’ installation guidance recommends supporting the banner through its attachment points rather than loading just the corners.
Keep boxes and other heavy objects off the printed surface. Check the mounted result under your event lighting. This method can improve loose waves, but it does not guarantee removal of a sharp packing crease.
Method 2: Use gentle heat only if your printer approves
Heat is an optional treatment for a compatible print. Before trying it on a Tandaku banner, ask us to confirm suitability for the material, ink and finishing. Follow the instructions supplied for that print.
If a hair dryer is approved, the precautions should include:
- Test a small hidden area first.
- Use a low heat setting.
- Work on the unprinted reverse and keep the appliance away from the surface.
- Keep it moving instead of heating one spot.
- Stop if the print or surface changes.
Signs.com describes these precautions and warns that excessive heat can permanently damage a vinyl banner. For a double-sided print, obtain specific instructions before heating either face. Do not put an iron on a vinyl banner; Signs.com advises against this method.
There is no single temperature or distance we can recommend for every banner. An approved treatment may reduce wrinkles without removing a deep fold mark completely.
Watch an external wrinkle-care demonstration
The following BannerBuzz video shows its approach to vinyl banner wrinkle care. It is an external demonstration, so check suitability before copying a heat treatment on your Tandaku print.

Can I use a garment steamer on a vinyl banner?
Check the print’s care instructions first. A steamer used on another backdrop does not establish that it suits your banner.
Advice differs between suppliers. BannerBuzz describes steaming some vinyl banners, while Vispronet recommends steaming for listed polyester graphics but says not to iron or steam its vinyl banners.
The House of Party steamer Short is another example to discuss with your printer. Its suitability for Tandaku’s banner stock has not been verified. Confirm the material and treatment before using a steamer or heat gun.
How to store your banner and avoid new fold lines

Once the banner is clean and completely dry, loosely roll it around a clean rigid core. Ask your printer which print-side orientation suits the finish. Avoid tight bands that dent the roll, and keep printed surfaces from rubbing together.
Store it somewhere clean and dry, with no heavy objects stacked on top. FASTSIGNS’ storage instructions recommend a loose roll around a core and avoiding folds or ink-to-ink contact.
Rolling helps prevent new sharp folds. It does not guarantee that an existing crease will disappear.
Choose packing and material before your next event

Folding is sometimes used for oversized courier banners because of carrier limits, as 4OVER4 explains in its packing policy. It is best to know the packing arrangement before choosing your event backdrop.
| Tandaku option | What to expect | Collection or delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Standard folded flex | Compact packing; visible fold lines may remain | Standard courier where available |
| Rolled flex in a tube | Avoids packing folds; other wrinkles are still possible | 3 m or longer: self-pickup only. Shorter tubes: lorry fit must be confirmed |
| Tension fabric backdrop | Fabric fits over its matching frame for a smoother display | Check delivery for the selected kit |
Standard courier packing: we fold large flex banners and printed jumbo backdrops to fit our 700 × 700 × 30 mm courier parcel arrangement. This is Tandaku’s packing policy, rather than a universal limit for every printer or carrier. Folding can leave crease lines that remain after hanging.
Rolled packing: add RM40 per order, arranged with our team before ordering. Jumbo tubes are approximately 2–3 m long, depending on the print. Tubes 3 m or longer are self-pickup only. Shorter tubes can use Lalamove lorry only after our team confirms that the vehicle fits the full packed length. Lorry delivery is charged separately; rolled tubes cannot travel by standard courier. See our banner packing notice.
For a smoother background in event photos, consider a Tension Fabric Backdrop. Choose a matching frame-and-graphic system and follow its fabric care instructions. Orbus describes tension fabric backwalls as wrinkle-resistant; this does not mean every fabric graphic is guaranteed crease-free.
Frequently asked questions
Will hanging it overnight remove every crease?
No. Supported mounting and time may improve soft wrinkles, but deep fold marks can remain. Check the result early enough to consider another display if the finish is important for photographs.
Does thicker flex guarantee a smooth backdrop?
No. A heavier material is not a guarantee against packing folds. Consider the packing method and intended use alongside the banner material.
Will replacement fabric fit my jumbo banner stand?
A loose fabric sheet does not automatically fit a stand designed for PVC pole pockets. Choose a compatible fabric display system and check the graphic and frame dimensions together.
What should I do if a fold line remains?
Send us a full banner photo, a close-up and your order number before trying stronger treatments. We can check the material, mounting and available options.
